Lesson Plans 10/28 – 11/1

10/28: Bell ringer; Students will plot their stars on the Hertzsprung-Russell diagram and complete EXPLORE packet part III and IV in STEMscopes.

10/29: Bell ringer; Students will the life cycles of stars, predicting the next cycle for our Sun and answering the reflections and conclusions questions in EXPLORE packet.

10/30: HALF DAY; Students will watch RESPECT presentation and RED RIBBON WEEK video.

Lesson Plans 10/21-10/25

10/21 – Inservice for teachers, grades posted for 1st nine weeks.

10/22 – Bell ringer 1; 8.8A Pre-assessment; ENGAGE activity (students look at the relationship between star color and star temperature); 8.8A TEKS breakdown: the student is expected to describe components of the universe, including stars, nebulae, and galaxies, and use models such as the Hertzsprung-Russell diagram for classification; 8.8A vocabulary in journals.

10/23 – Bell ringer 1; students will start the EXPLORE activity (In Part I of this activity, students will act out the different stages of the life cycles of a small or medium star and a large star. In Part II, students will explore the life cycle of stars by playing a game with their lab partners. In Part III, students will use the H-R diagram to determine how scientists classify stars. In Part IV, students will compare drawings of the four types of galaxies and match them to pictures taken from the Hubble Space Telescope of actual galaxies.)

10/24 – Bell ringer 1; Students will continue in EXPLORE activity using the H-R diagram on wall in hallway, completing the assignment in STEMscopes.

10/25 – Students will have a progress monitoring assessment to determine need for more practice, advanced learners may start accelerated learning activities.
